Fire Mitigation

Fire Mitigation

Prolonged drought and severe weather has made wildfire a significant and very real threat to people, property, and infrastructure in our mountain communities. Over the last three years, we have completed more than 5000 acres of fire mitigation work ranging from work around single structures to large-scale fuel reductions encircling entire communities.

Defensible Space

It is no longer a question of “if” wildfire will affect our communities, but rather “when”. And while no strategy is guaranteed, recent history has provided ample evidence of the efficacy of creating zone-based, defensible space around structures that helps reduce ladder fuels and ultimately provide firefighters with a tactical advantage in the defense of your property. Our team has the knowledge, skill and experience to complete fire mitigation work that aligns with best practices established by federal, state, and local government agencies, or to enact requirements imposed by insurance companies.

Fuel Reduction

Fire is a natural part of forest regeneration. In its absence, dead trees remain standing or snagged among the healthy ones, the ground becomes densely packed with dead wood that has fallen, and the understory grows unchecked. The net result is ideal conditions for the spread of wildfire. Fuel reduction in areas in and around your property helps take away combustible materials that allow fire to spread along the ground and up into the trees, ultimately slowing the spread of fire.

Forestry & Fire Mitigation

Specialized Land Management (SLM) is a division of Old Growth Tree Service focused primarily on Forestry, Fire Mitigation, and Land Management. Over the last four years, SLM has completed more than 5000 acres of fuel reductions and habitat enhancement. Our team uses specialized forestry equipment and a hand crew to complete work in the most challenging areas, including steep, mountainous terrain and environmentally sensitive areas. Fire mitigation work in and around structures is completed by Old Growth Tree Service. Larger projects that require more resources are tackled by SLM. Regardless, we work as one team to ensure that your project is completed safely, efficiently, and in the most cost-effective manner.
